Grand Valley

September 20, 2021

To the Grand Valley Students, Staff, Families, and Community:

This letter is to inform you that every three (3) years, the Grand Valley Local School District is required to conduct a full-scale safety drill for the students, staff, families, and community.  A full-scale drill requires that First Responders are involved.  This is a notification to all that we will be conducting a full-scale drill in the month of October.  We have spent many years preparing our children on how to evacuate the building in the case of an emergency with the full-scale drill in the past.  We are excited that we are moving beyond the simple evacuation into a much more detailed drill this year.  Please know we will communicate with you the day it happens and assure you that it was a drill and not a real event.

The drill that will be conducted will be a lockdown drill that will involve three (3) students:  2 victims, and one suspect.  All of the students directly involved in this will have practiced with the safety forces and first responders, and the parents of these children have been notified.  Our staff will also be working with the local safety sources on our professional development day to prepare as much as possible for this drill and for it to be a quality drill.  As we get closer to the day of the event, we will send out reminders that we will be practicing this lockdown drill.  Please remember on the day of the drill, we ask that you have a conversation with your child about what happened, how they felt, and if they have any questions at all that you as a parent or unable to answer, to please encourage your child to speak with their teacher, their administration or someone in the school.

Thank you everyone for working with us to always keep our schools safe.  Remember, if you ever see or hear something that is concerning to you, always reach out to your school administrator and make a report.  All reports are taken seriously and investigated to ensure the safety of our schools.

Sincerely,

Dr. William R. Nye Jr.
Superintendent
